## What exactly is a peptide?

Think of a peptide as tiny building blocks linked into a short chain, like beads on a thread. Proteins use these building blocks too.

Insulin is one example.

The name describes what the product is made of. It does not mean the product is safe or legal to use.

Could we write down the medicine’s full name?

## Is this a real kind of medicine?

Some peptides are used as medicines.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) checks each medicine for the specific health problem it is intended to treat.

Ozempic and Wegovy contain semaglutide; Mounjaro and Zepbound contain tirzepatide. These products have FDA approval as of September 26, 2026.

Which product is this, and what is it being offered to treat?

## What is a compounded medicine?

Compounding means preparing a medicine to meet one patient’s particular needs. A pharmacist or doctor does this work.

As of September 26, 2026, compounding can be legal when it follows the relevant rules.

The FDA has not approved these custom medicines. The FDA does not check the quality of these medicines, how well they work or the harm they might cause before they are sold.

What need would this custom medicine meet that an approved product cannot?

## Does “research use only” mean treatment?

“Research use only” does not mean the product is meant for a person to take as medicine.

FDA guidance as of September 26, 2026, warns against taking weight-loss products that bear research labels but are sold for people to use.

The quality of these products is still not established. Taking them could cause harm.

Is this being offered through medical care, or through a research-products checkout?

## Where can I start in Minneapolis?

Start with the kind of visit you want. An in-person clinic offers a place to talk face to face. Telehealth is care over a screen, phone or online exchange.

Ask how the service arranges an exam or tests if they are needed. Bring the same questions to either kind of visit.

As of October 1, 2026, Minnesota’s medical board lists licensed doctors and physician assistants. It also lists doctors in other states registered to give care by phone or online to people in Minnesota.

Registering each year lets a doctor give care from another state without a full Minnesota licence. The doctor must have a licence with no limits where they work. No state may ever have taken away or limited that doctor’s licence.

Use the board’s records to check the name and licence or registration of the person offering care.
